AISA Marks Martyrdom Day of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev at Lucknow University

On the 95th martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) organized a programme at the University of Lucknow, where members paid tribute by garlanding statues of the three revolutionaries.

According to the organization, the occasion was intended not only as an act of remembrance but also as an engagement with the political ideas of these figures and their contemporary relevance.

Participants at the programme reflected on the legacy of Bhagat Singh and others, with speakers stating that their struggle extended beyond anti-colonial resistance and addressed broader questions of inequality and justice.

Revolutionary poet Paash was also remembered during the event. Speakers referenced his writings while discussing the importance of critical thinking and dissent.

Speaking on the occasion, Samar, Vice President, AISA Uttar Pradesh, said:

“Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev do not belong to history alone. Their martyrdom compels us to confront the conditions of our present. At a time when inequality deepens and dissent is increasingly criminalised, remembering them must mean organising against these injustices.”

He further added:

“Paash reminds us that the most dangerous thing is the death of our dreams. To keep those dreams alive is to resist, to question, and to build collective political strength.”

The organization also stated that universities should function as spaces for critical inquiry and democratic engagement, and emphasised the continued relevance of Bhagat Singh’s ideas for student movements.

The programme concluded with participants expressing their intention to continue engaging with these themes in their academic and organizational work.
