A student has submitted a complaint at Hasanganj Police Station alleging misconduct by a university official during protests held at the University of Lucknow over a recent fee hike.
According to the complaint filed by student Prem Prakash, the incident took place on 28 April 2026, when students had gathered to seek a meeting with the Vice Chancellor regarding the fee increase. The complainant alleged that during the interaction, students were pushed, verbally confronted, and threatened by members of the university’s proctorial team. These claims have not been independently verified.
The complaint names Proctor Rakesh Dwivedi in connection with the incident. At the time of publication, no official response from the university administration was available.
Student groups also claimed that photographic evidence exists which, according to them, supports their version of events. Independent verification of these materials is awaited.
According to the students, the incident was followed by the issuance of show-cause notices with short response deadlines. They further alleged that some students were detained by police on 29 April when attempting to submit their responses. These claims remain unverified.
Prem Prakash, the complainant, said:
“We went to speak about the fee hike. We were not allowed to raise our concerns and were pushed and threatened. I filed this complaint because I felt unsafe.”
Shantam Nidhi, President, AISA Lucknow University, said:
“This FIR reflects concerns that students have been raising about how dissent is being handled. We are demanding accountability in this matter.”
Prince Prakash, National Coordinator, NSUI, said:
“This incident raises questions about how student protests are addressed. We believe the matter requires proper investigation.”
