A protest was held today at the University of Lucknow against the recent fee hike, with students expressing opposition to the revised fee structure.
Following a four-hour sit-in outside Gate No. 1 (DSW Office) of the University of Lucknow, students submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor. According to the memorandum, semester fees for the academic session 2026β27 have been increased compared to the 2025β26 session for courses including B.A. (Hons.), B.Com (Hons.), B.A. LL.B., M.Sc. Biotechnology, and M.Sc. Biochemistry, among others.
The protesting students stated that the fee hike could negatively affect access to higher education for many students, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds.
The students presented two primary demands:
- Admissions for the new academic session should be conducted under the same semester fee structure as the 2025β26 session, without revision.
- Cases and disciplinary actions taken against students who protested against the fee hike should be withdrawn.
The organizers stated that if these demands are not addressed within six days, they may intensify their protest and expand the movement beyond the campus level.
Prince Kumar, Unit President of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, said:
βThe University of Lucknow is an important public institution for students from economically weaker and rural backgrounds. A steep fee increase can create additional barriers for students seeking higher education.β
Among those present during the protest were National Vice President of Lohia Vahini Abhishek Srivastava Babu, Unit General Secretary Rajat Agrahari, Unit Vice President Shivpujan Pandey, Unit Spokesperson Satish Gupta, and several other student representatives and participants.
