AISA Holds Conference in Lucknow, Elects New University Unit Leadership

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) conducted the organizational session of its 9th Lucknow University Unit Conference on 26 April and announced a new leadership team. Shantam Nidhi was elected President and Harsh as Secretary. Samar, Samvidha, and Ahmad were elected as Vice Presidents, while Sukirti, Satyam, Atul, and Ansh were elected as Joint Secretaries.

According to AISA, the conference was held following the cancellation of its earlier scheduled session by the University administration. The organization alleged that the event had received prior permission and described the cancellation as unjustified. These claims could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

AISA stated that, after holding an open session and protest at Gate No. 1 of the university, it conducted the organizational session at the UP Press Club.

Leaders and members of the organization, including former JNUSU President Dhananjay, AISA National President Neha, and other state representatives, were present at the session. The meeting was presided over by Prachi, Seema, and Satyam, and an organizational report was presented by Samar on behalf of the outgoing convening body.

The organization announced the formation of a 39-member council for the university unit.

Speaking after being elected President, Shantam Nidhi said:

“What the administration attempted was not merely the cancellation of a conference, but the regulation of who can speak and organize within the university… Every attempt to silence students will only strengthen resistance.”

Newly elected Secretary Harsh said:

“The issues we confront, including fee structures, access to education, and institutional policies, are interconnected. We aim to build sustained student engagement around these concerns.”

According to AISA, the organizational report discussed broader concerns related to higher education policies, access, and what it described as challenges faced by marginalized student groups. The organization also linked these issues to wider policy frameworks, including the National Education Policy.

AISA stated that it would continue to mobilize students around issues such as fee hikes, access to education, and campus governance.
