What LitCore Means To Me

Family.

What is family?

Family is the place where you belong, a place where you feel loved, feel welcomed wholeheartedly, and feel the warmth and care of your cherished ones. Families are supposed to stand up for each other no matter what, be there for one another at the lowest points of life, and ensure that a kin should never feel that they’re all alone in this world. That is exactly what LitCore means to me.

When I walked through the gates of the University of Lucknow, I pondered if I would ever be able to fit in, completely unaware that a home called LitCore would be waiting for me. It was my first day in class and I felt a bit uneasy there. Something felt off. I couldn’t make out what that feeling was until I joined the society, and realised that this was what I was looking for.

I got to know about LU.LitCore from a WhatsApp group chat. When I saw that there was a literary society in the University of Lucknow, I knew that I had to join it. I was already quite upset that I didn’t have the language English in my course so this was my last opportunity to be in touch with what I love the most.

The day of the screening round came, and I was a bundle of nerves. After the interview, I had lowered my expectations to zero as I was sceptical whether I’d be selected, but I was content that I at least gave it a shot. Then, came the day when the results were announced, and I was overjoyed seeing my name up there.

The first working day in the society, and I was already editing an article, and I loved every bit of it. I still remember how flustered I was in the first online meeting after the orientation. With time, new heads were appointed and I was appointed as the PR Head. I was on cloud nine. The PR team and I stuck posters around the campus, giggling away our tiredness. We might have ragebaited a certain crowd with the posters we stuck!

In the meantime, I got the opportunity to meet one of the best people of my life, and I’m extremely grateful for each and every one of them. Not only did our bond grow stronger as colleagues, but also as friends, which eventually led us to be the LitCore FAMILY.

It is one of the greatest pleasures of my life to be a part of the independent student-run college newsletter, LU.Chronicles. Being an editor, a writer and a proofread er at LU.Chronicles has taught me more than any mentor ever could. Being a part of the society has not only enhanced my skills and love for English, but also rooted me deeply with emotions like empathy, compassion, generosity, and strengthened mutual understanding with others as a whole.

On 1st April, 2026, we shall be celebrating the Foundation Day of our literary society. This day not only marks the one-year anniversary of a society, but also marks the commemoration of the idea of building a space in the University of Lucknow, where the students can channelise their creativity, thoughts, voices, and their latent energy in the right direction. An honorable mention to our Founder and President, Shumaila Khan for building a place that we can call a second home.

LitCore is that ray of sunshine in my life that I never knew I needed. When I’ll be counting all the things that I am grateful for, LitCore will surely be there. Although I have written an entire article on what LitCore means to me, my words and self-expression would never be able to give justice to what it actually does mean to me.

And as it is famously said that after death, the human brain lives for 7 minutes to replay the best memories of your life, LitCore will surely be there in those 7 minutes for me. Thank you LitCore for everything!
